Pessimistic Facebook Theory:

The more that I become “popular” on Facebook sharing all the stuff I think about, the more individualized I become, the stranger others perceive me, and the less social and popular I actually become.

Just a thought.

Agree or disagree? Why?

Have you become more or less physically social as you have engaged in social media?

  1. Reminds me of Buechner’s proposed paradox, “that what we hunger for perhaps more than anything else is to be known in our full humanness, and yet that is often just what we also fear more than anything else.”

Seems like Facebook is an attractive medium to “be known” but the catch is that it only plays into the fear of really being known and even cripples the act of being physically social.
