It seems to sound contradictory, as all of us love to give commentary on this life, but this life in simple. Like a sculptor looking at a large block of stone trying to figure out the best way to chisel away the needless pieces and reveal the statue. Christ paid the price for us to be reunited with God.
As much as we have methods that we use to break away the needless understanding and former ways of living. It all boils down to our surrender to God’s life. The giving up of what we desire and the acceptance that God desires and wants us.
Many other methods of Christian spirituality teach ways of embracing Christian principles and applying them to an un-surrendered life. The principles carry with them an anointing and a goodness, but they can never compare to the fully surrendered reconciled child of God.
The difference is clear by the fruit. Is there clear direction and peace? Is there a temptation to feast on spiritual knowledge and teachings like an all-you-can-eat buffet? The all-you-can-eat buffet never will lead to fulfillment. Only the surrendered broken life unified with God will find satisfaction and bare the fruit of union with God.
Matthew 24:23-24 23 Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘There He is,’ do not believe him. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
The adversary doesn’t have to lead you into full throttled Satan worship to keep you from bearing the fruit of union with God. He just has to keep you away from the simplicity of surrender and union with the person of Christ. If you listen carefully you can hear people saying, “Come over here for this meeting, Jesus will be here.” or “Jesus is coming to our meeting.” Or, “This is what Jesus is saying…” And that has become the trend of our traditions, and it’s the norm. Very few come to the meeting with a word or a song, knowing the voice of the Master, they come because “Jesus” is going to be there. There is no doubt that God uses our traditions and works through them. But He will not be contained by them, He is God, He is Lord and the creator of the universe.
So the trend is a diluted form of traditional Christian spirituality that blankets the world, but few can distinguish and follow the Christ. This is a problem.
There is one difference between the Church and the world. Those who have been reconciled with God and those who have not. Those who walk with God and those who don’t. It’s simple, and yet the tangled webs that have been strewn across the traditions of men have made a huge mess complicating and binding up many. Keep it simple.
