We must lay down our lives to have the life of Christ. Either we try, to no avail, to live righteously and find joy. OR we give up our lives to God and let Jesus live in and through us, making us righteous and joyous.
This is what the New Testament teaches. Endless commentary and opinions about stuff is entertaining, but picking up the cross is the only way to the life that Christ died to give us.
