What’s My Purpose?

“Jealous Christians just don’t know who they are. You’d never be jealous of somebody else if you knew who you were. You would never want someone else’s gift if you knew why you were alive.” ~ Bill Johnson

2 Chron. 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

There is only one place to find out who we are and to gain the confidence to accomplish the goals we were made for, in His presence. He has a plan to change the world through you, all you have to do is fully submit to Him and He will do it through you.

Life… Now.

Matthew 5:11-12 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

We get rewarded in the after life for the persecution we endure here on earth… that’s just gotta be true.

But of the many times Christ speaks of rewards in heaven, like the passage just mentioned from Matthew 5,  I believe Him to be speaking primarily of  the present life, the now life.

Is it really all that likely that all of the apostles and millions of Christians since the earthy ministry of Christ died brutal deaths for a reward that had no use for the here and now? Of course not.  Christ was revealing a truth about the present life, persecution forges faith and relationship to God like no other tool on earth.

As we experience suffering we are given gifts, spiritual gifts, in the heavens.

arrowheadLike a stone beats another stone into an arrowhead, persecution is used to forge out of us a ripened God centered life. Yeah, its painful and troubling, but when this idea is embraced a life of freedom is the result.

Christ said that He had no place to lay His head (Luke 9:58). And we say poor little homeless Jesus, Him had no place to sleep. Truth is that He knew that owning a piece of property was a stupid idea. His Father owns the cattle on a thousand hill, even He, Jesus, created all things. My point is that we think wrongly about what the scripture intended to say. As a result our application gets twisted and as a result of that all of our lives get built on a faulty foundation.

So who has the wrong perspective? Are we missing the point? Maybe Jesus had it right. Maybe the life that is most abundant is a life of complete surrender to God where rejection is the norm. Maybe communion with God in shear breakneck obedience is the way to ultimate freedom now. Maybe cross bearing  has the hope of a present blessing of communion with God, not just the hope of resurrection.

Just think of how the hard times seem to always drive you to God.

This is an aspect of the cross. Take a hard look at it, try it out.

Yeah it’s heavy and it hurts, but by this cross you are given abundant life… now.

Chew on this one and enjoy.

Isaiah 62:6-7

6 I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem;
they will never be silent day or night.
You who call on the LORD,
       give yourselves no rest,

7 and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem
and makes her the praise of the earth.

My Eyes are on You Lord

"What are you still doing here."
"What are you still doing here?"

This frightened me when I saw it on top of the ladder at my day job.  Seen it a few times in the past few years at work. But today it had the prophetic edge that shook me up.

Over lunch today I met with a local Pastor who I feel a new call to lend my services to. Just nailed down a date for a new prayer movement two days ago.

Heard a word from the Lord a few days ago that He was “putting me in a postion to have one mission and one mind.”

Had a talk with the wife and now the clock is ticking…

My eyes are on you Lord.

Submersive Prayer

For what purpose has God called me?

Have you pondered the question?

He has imputed His righteousness so that we might be able to approach the Father’s holiness. Have you taken advantage?

Prayer. A commonly used word that is often missunderstood for sheer over use of it. I would like to redefine it today in the context of your life.

prayer-girlPrayer- a gateway into the passion filled heaven-bound kingdom of the presence of God.

The false definition is that prayer is a destination that one can go to and leave. No, prayer is a door to interacting with the presence of God. It is nothing to be good at like a sport.

Prayer  is a way of life… in fact it is the ideal way of life.

Prayer is where we receive guidance in our lives. It is where we collapse in the presence of Our Father so that He can relieve us of the burdens that we carry. But despite the temptation, prayer does not stop there. There is more, there is purpose, there is fulfillment yet to be had.

We hear the instruction there and receive relief from our burdens- to live out the instruction we have been given.

The 15 minutes or 2 hours that you spend in the prayer place propels us to  fulfill the lives He has created us for. The way to be prayerful through those days is to be obedient to His instructions.

As we dunk our whole lives in prayer we find ourselves in the midst of many activities and responsibilities that have the potential to overwhelm us. This is a sign of the greatness that we can accomplish through Christ. This is not the place to worry or fear, but to rejoice in the accomplishment of living prayerful.

When living submerged in the council of God you can bet you will be places that you would never imagine. But,  if you think really hard you will discover that this is actually good for you and fulfilling. The stress that you endure is worthwhile stress because it is God who has led you their.

Who are you living to please? Is it yourself? Is it your spouse? Your boss?

Why not live to please God?

He is not far off or distant in any way.

He is present in such a way that He will make His will know to you if you ask. He doesn’t ask of you more that you are able to give. But what you do give He will honor and make it worth your while.

So today, May the sacrifice of a willing heart be the only sacrifice you see God needs. May your token offerings be kept to yourself and may the depths of your heart begin to be opened up to the one who made it.
